About us

"Home Jazz Band" - traditional jazz hooligans since 2011.

The soft tone of a trumpet comes through the heavy cellar door. This is a secret bar, drowned in the smoke of ladies' cigarillos, intimate conversations. On the stage, the double bass player controls the pulse of the audience with his slow strums. And the guitarist's rhythmic bridges and the intense echo of the cymbals invites you behind the purple satin curtains. Sweaty couples are letting loose on the dance floor in the depths of the bar. Suited men and red-lipped ladies twirl to the clarinetist's melodies.

These experiences don't require a time machine. No need to travel to 1920s New Orleans or 1940s New York. Traditional jazz and swing collective "Home Jazz Band" will take you on thistrip. Since 2011, the group has been breaking standards, discovering works hidden in the chests of history, bringing them to new life. The listener not only immerses himself in the whirlwind of dance, but after the concert also takes away knowledge about New Orleans street marches, vaudeville, sight seeing, big band music, and European jazz. Home Jazz Band's jazz is all kinds - authentic and sometimes punk rock, smooth as silk and sometimes rough and dirty. The most important thing is that it is real.

The Band

Mindaugas is an international dance instructor, performer and a musician from Lithuania. He started dancing in 2006. In 2008 he formed a traditional jazz dancer band “Rhythm Junkies” and in 2011 “Home Jazz Five” now known as “Home Jazz Band”. Inspired by dancing his bands have different jazz era’s sounds and specialises to play for dancers. Mindaugas is a self taught musician, though music is deep in his family roots. His grandfather was a great Lithuanian accordion, violin and piano player and his father was a great Lithuanian Traditional Folk Music representative, clarinet and a Lithuanian Folk wind instrument Birbynė player, that wrote hundreds of folk arrangements and dedicated his life teaching and popularising folk music. Mindaugas has played with many swing and traditional jazz bands all around the world (Cassidy and the Orlean Kids, Gordon Webster, Smoking Time Jazz Band, Jumbo Shrimp Jazz Band, Aurora Nealand and The Royal Roses, European Swing Dance Championship Orchestra etc).

I am Marius Zaremba. The band's clarinetist. I have been with the group since its creation, and I started my musical journey when I was six, when I entered the National M.K. Čiurlionis Art School. I also studied LMTA. I got my bachelor's degree in performing arts there. During my studies, I performed with a retro jazz trio, where I tried to acquire the first knowledge of improvisation. At that time, I was also active in hip-hop culture. With the group "Eazee Shoq" we recorded the album "Retrospektyva" in 2009. I also started creating electronic music, which was included in the collection "Ritmo Kovos". Since 2008, with some convincing from my colleague and friend Mindaugas, I joined the swing ensemble "Rhythm Junkies", with which we released three albums and toured half of Europe. Ten years ago we formed a new group "Home Jazz Band". I am also a journalist in TV shows and projects.
